What kind of data is available on CollegeVine?

Basic Details and Contact Information

The Basic Details and Contact Information section provides an overview of the student, their parent/guardian, and their contact details. This section represents the basic information that identifies who the student is, what enrollment term they’re looking for, and how to contact them.

A key set of data in this section is details about the student’s parents or guardians. A student’s college enrollment is increasingly becoming a family decision with multiple stakeholders. It’s critical to engage parents and guardians early in the process and build excitement with them around your institution.

Demographics

The Demographics section provides all the demographic details of the student. This data is useful in assessing the diversity of your inquiry pool.

Background Context

The Background Context section provides detailed information about where the student is from. In this dataset, we break down key details of the student’s high school and neighborhood.

A key data point in this section is the Environment Index. This is a calculated field that assesses the relative amount of environmental impact faced by the student based on the high school they went to and the neighborhood they live in. This ethnicity-agnostic score can be used as a means of ensuring adequate context is taken into account when assessing a student’s achievement level.

Preferences and Persona

The Preferences and Persona section provides detailed insight into the most important factors the student will use in making their college decision. We cluster students into one of six personas based on their express preferences. Knowing a student’s persona and top preferences enables you to provide personalized communication and nurturing on their path to enrollment.

A key data point in this section is the Affinity Score. We generate this score using a machine learning model that predicts the students’ likelihood of applying and enrolling in your institution using a variety of indicators (the students’ school list, stated preferences, behavior on CollegeVine, etc.). Affinity Scores help you understand the interest distribution of your inquiry pool, enabling you to focus on your highest affinity candidates, or measure how you’re growing affinity of other candidates over time.

Academics, Extracurriculars, and Awards

The Academics section provides the full academic and extracurricular profile of the student across grades, coursework, test scores, extracurriculars, and awards.

A key data point in this section is the student’s Admissions Chance. This score is powered by a machine learning model that has observed the acceptance and rejection data of all past CollegeVine applicants. The model accounts for a student’s entire application, including academics, demographics, extracurriculars and provides a probability of acceptance. This data can be used as a shorthand proxy for your institution's future admissions decision against the student.
